Alex MacPhie

UK Excellence Consultant

Alex is a self-confessed geek who spent the first part of his career as Senior Staff Engineer developing semiconductor manufacturing processes; this is where continuous improvement and systems thinking were incorporated into his DNA. Permanently curious about how things work and how to do it better, he’s always quick to ask a question to understand and challenge his clients’ current thinking.

Passionate about business improvement, Alex aims to provide perspective and context to internal and external issues faced by organizations, implementing sustainable solutions, often using visual techniques as a starting point. A wide range of interests from statistics through neuro-linguistic programming to music mean that there is generally a metaphor or story at the start of any point he is trying to make.

Alex leads on business improvement, improving efficiency through the matching of people and process, and performance management. He has led organizations through interventions, ranging from facilitating strategy development to implementation of continuous improvement activities and the development of business plans within corporations and SMEs. These activities cover a wide variety of sectors, including manufacturing, oil & gas, service, and construction.

Alex is a Certified Management Consultant, a Fellow of the Institute of Consulting with a BSc (Hons) in physical sciences, and a MBA from the University of Edinburgh. He is also a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt.

If he has any free time from his young children, he likes to train and complete long distance bike rides for charity, and he has completed rides in Peru, Nepal, and Vietnam.
